Great opportunity to influence our Electricity Transmission business on system safety related issues and processes on HV network.
As the System Safety Manager, you’ll play a key role in leading and inspiring a dedicated safety team to provide subject matter expertise in system safety across National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET).
Your primary focus will be on driving continual improvement in safety compliance and system safety performance. You will have the opportunity to motivate and energise leaders throughout NGET, empowering them to take full accountability for safety leadership within their respective areas of the business. Additionally, you will lead high profile safety projects and campaigns demonstrating innovation and best practices to foster our continuous improvement culture.
Providing expert advice on system safety, you’ll be responsible for updating and providing guidance on NGET’s safety business processes. Other key work activities focus around reducing the risk of harm and injuries from our fatal risk groups which are present in system focussed environments. Building strong relationships with contacts across Delivery Vehicles will be crucial to your success.
You’ll be a key contributor and facilitator in the development of NGET safety strategy, ensuring its alignment with organisational goals and objectives, giving you the opportunity to make a significant impact on how we manage safety as we enter a period of expediential growth.
Staying abreast of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards, you’ll ensure compliance, proactively addressing any emerging safety issues or changes in regulatory requirements. This will include liaising with HSE and contributing to the Energy Networks Association working groups. You will also analyse trend data relating to safety incidents, identifying causes and help support the business to avoid incidents.
Visiting sites to conduct audits and lead on any incident Investigations, you’ll promote a culture of learning from incidents and share lessons learned throughout the organisation.
You’ll build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including leaders across NGET, Delivery Vehicles, contractors, and regulatory bodies, effectively collaborating to promote safety accountability and engagement at all levels.
We’re flexible on where you are based but there will be regular travel to operational sites throughout England and Wales and this can be combined with hybrid working from home.
We’re looking for someone who has previous experience of working on a High Voltage system (66kV and above).
You’ll possess a NEBOSH Diploma and have relevant safety experience, coupled with in-depth knowledge of SHEQ legislation and how procedures are applied in a high-risk environment, such as the energy sector, construction or manufacturing.
Experience of developing and implementing health and safety management systems is key as is experience of working in high-risk environments.
You’ll also have an understanding and experience of system safety related risks and knowledge of incident investigation.
Excellent interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to demonstrate sound constructive decision-making abilities, as well as the ability to communicate well with regulatory bodies and peer organisations are all essential as is effective people management skills with the ability to manage and develop a high performing team.
You will require a Full UK Driving Licence.
