Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking System Safety Engineers to apply safety analysis across the full system lifecycle, from requirements through in-service support, to drive mitigations and safe design trade-offs. Your work will rely on fault trees, scenario analyses, and other techniques to document decisions and improve safety management.

Ideal candidates will have experience in safety-critical industries, across engineering phases, and in producing safety artefacts such as SSAs, hazard logs, fault trees

• Experience of generating safety engineering artefacts e.g. system safety assessment, hazard log, fault trees, risk assessments.

Job description

What you will do as a System Safety Engineer Use safety analysis skills across the full system lifecycle: from requirements analysis (including bids and contracting); through design, development; to system integration, acceptance testing, delivery and in-service support. Identify hazards and investigate these using functional failure analyses and other techniques, identifying the necessary mitigations to reduce safety risks, and taking part in design trade-offs to implement them. Evidence your decisions using the data available to you, through fault tree analysis, scenario analysis, and various other techniques. Contribute to continual improvement of the Company Product Safety and Environmental Impact Management System.

Your work could contribute to: Radar systems for fighter jets like the Typhoon and SAAB Gripen GCAP - Future Generation Radar & Electro-Optical Targeting products Infra-Red Counter Measures (IRCM) systems Laser target designators and ranging systems Surveillance AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radars

What you will bring

• Experience of safety analysis of complex systems in a safety-critical industry.
• Experience across a number of engineering lifecycle phases.
• Experience of generating safety engineering artefacts e.g. system safety assessment, hazard log, fault trees, risk assessments etc.
• Knowledge of lasers, radar systems, and/or sensors and defensive aids systems.
• Ability to work with different engineering disciplines, e.g. software, electronics, mechanical.
• Experience with at least one of: ARP4754B, ARP4761A, RTCA DO-254, or DO-178C.
• An interest in new and emerging technologies and safety analysis techniques.

Salary Range:Systems Engineer £38,000 - £48,000Senior Systems Engineer £44,500 - £56,000Principal Systems Engineer £53,500 - £68,000Lead Systems Engineer £59,500 - £75,000Where this vacancy is being recruited across more than one grade, the successful candidate will be appointed to a specific assessed grade, and the applicable salary range will be that associated with the grade of appointment.Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.
