System Safety & Environmental Engineer

Summary

This key role within Thales involves ensuring that our products can be certified to international standards and are safe for our customers. The role includes planning and managing safety-related activities within bids and projects, leading hazard analysis, and developing safety & environmental requirements for IAS products throughout their lifecycle. It also involves providing guidance to design teams to implement safety requirements and develop safety arguments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of S&E design activities within an Integrated Project Team following the IAS safety management system.
  • Conduct hazard analysis, risk evaluation, and specify S&E requirements related to performance, engineering features, interfaces, and testing.
  • Communicate safety and environmental safety arguments effectively across disciplines to ensure adherence to all requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with S&E processes and standards, maintaining a good understanding of relevant standards and regulations.
  • Estimate costs for project S&E activities and prepare hazard analysis reports and safety cases.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Strong engineering design principles and methodology skills.
  • Experience in safety analysis, risk evaluation, and safety case development.
  • Ability to perform environmental impact and risk assessments.
  • Experience working within an airworthiness environment.

Qualifications

  • Science or Engineering degree (or equivalent).
  • Safety credentials and training.
  • Chartered Engineer or member of a Professional Institution (preferred).
  • Postgraduate qualification in safety or environmental engineering (preferred).
