Job description

Quantinuum is seeking to hire a System Reliability Engineer for our Cambridge-based cloud platform, Quantinuum Nexus. Our team aims to support quantum researchers at every stage of an experiment, making working on quantum computers as easy as sending an email.

The successful candidate will be an expert in managing managed Kubernetes instances such as Amazon EKS and the distributed systems built on top of them. Responsibilities include architecture, performance, security, and cost management of these instances. Experience with tools like Helm, Karpenter, and k9s is essential.

The ideal candidate will have experience with collecting logs, traces, and metrics via Opentelemetry and making these available through AWS products like X-Ray and CloudWatch. These readings should be used to ensure Nexus meets high standards for performance and reliability, or to guide improvements.

In case of issues or outages, you will be active in reporting, monitoring, and diagnosing the causes. You should have programming experience to read and understand production code, correlating it with monitoring data. Collaboration with the development team is key to quickly identifying and resolving issues.

The ideal candidate will have:
  1. Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
  2. Experience collecting logs, traces, and metrics for distributed systems
  3. Experience using tools such as AWS CloudWatch to troubleshoot bugs and performance issues
  4. Experience improving Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform
  5. Experience working on cloud-based systems where uptime and reliability are critical
  6. Professional experience with Python
Desirable skills include:
  1. Experience with PostgreSQL
  2. Experience in continuous deployment environments
  3. Experience triaging and debugging code issues
  4. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry standards and SDKs
