Qualifications

  • Several years of relevant experience with switchgear, generators, PLCs, or control systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Promise E.
  • Understanding of electrical distribution, control systems, and codes (NFPA 70E, OSHA).

Job description

Job Title: Switchgear Controls Engineer (Power Systems Engineer)

The Switchgear Controls Engineer works with Engineers, DVL Sales, Program Management, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and end users. Responsible for entire power systems engineering projects from conception to completion, utilizing prior experience.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING
  1. Oversee integrated electrical controls projects from start to finish, including:
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineer to define and budget projects
  • Refine budget costs post-closing
  • Develop submittal drawings
  • Coordinate with switchgear vendors (GE, Square D, DVM, etc.)
  • Provide schematics for controls wiring
  • Design PLC control and redundancy logic, HMI graphics
  • Program Woodward Generator control devices and interface with PLC
  • Configure protective relay devices (SEL, GE, Schneider, Basler)
  • Oversee construction, write operation sequences, and test scripts
  • Participate in site and construction meetings, run factory witness tests
  • Perform field checks, startup, commissioning, and training
  • Provide ongoing service and assist with documentation

Additional responsibilities include constructing control panels, performing troubleshooting, setting up protective relays, and conducting tests and analyses.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Several years of relevant experience with switchgear, generators, PLCs, or control systems
  • Electrical/Generator controls design and/or field experience
  • BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Promise E
  • Understanding of electrical distribution, control systems, and codes (NFPA 70E, OSHA)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to learn IT/server network setup
  • Experience with GE and Allen Bradley PLCs, Woodward controls, protective relays, SCADA
  • Valid driver’s license

The salary range is $97,000 - $135,000/year plus benefits.
