Job summary

Sodexo is seeking an SVQ Cooking & Nutrition Instructor for HMP Addiewell to deliver practical and classroom cooking, nutrition and food hygiene sessions. You will support learners to gain qualifications, develop practical skills and build confidence for life beyond custody.

Working within a secure environment, you will deliver SVQ Professional Cookery and related qualifications, adapting to individual learning needs and maintaining high standards of hygiene and records.

Qualifications

• SCQF Level 7 in a teaching discipline is essential.
• SVQ Professional Cookery Assessor qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.
• Previous experience in teaching, training or vocational learning environment.
• Experience delivering or assessing vocational qualifications.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience of cooking and food hygiene.
• The ability to deliver practical cooking, food hygiene and SVQ-related learning.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage people, resources and learning activities.
• The ability to adapt teaching style to different learning needs and abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good IT skills and ability to maintain learner/qualification records.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging practical and classroom-based sessions in cooking, nutrition and food hygiene.
• Deliver and support learners working towards SVQ and Qualification Scotland qualifications.
• Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources.
• Assess learner work and prepare for assessments per awarding bodies.
• Monitor attendance, progress, achievement and progression.
• Maintain accurate educational and qualification records.
• Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet different learning needs.
• Provide advice and guidance on learner placement and progression.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health & safety and quality in the teaching kitchen.
• Maintain stock, equipment and tool-control records.
• Work with prison staff and rehabilitation teams to support learner development.
• Encourage learners to develop transferable skills and independent employment prospects.
• Contribute to course reviews, quality improvement and teaching practice development.
• Support learner engagement and recruitment to courses.
• Work with external awarding bodies and relevant teaching/quality standards.
• Collaborate as part of a wider team to deliver the SPS contract; attend occasional evenings/weekends.
