Job summary

Sodexo Ltd is seeking an English/ESOL Instructor to join the Learning & Skills team at HMP Addiewell. The role focuses on delivering engaging literacy and employability education within a secure custodial environment.

Deliver up to four sessions daily for diverse learners, using inclusive teaching strategies. A recognised teaching qualification is required; ESOL specialisms are desirable. Evenings/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a recognised teaching qualification (TQFE, PGDE, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or SCQF Level 7).
• Experience delivering English/ESOL to diverse learners, including low literacy.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching to learners with additional needs.
• Interest in rehabilitation and resettlement to support positive outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess English/ESOL lessons across levels.
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and learning materials.
• Use inclusive, learner‑centred teaching strategies to build literacy and employability.
• Differentiate to meet varied abilities and needs, with initial assessments.
• Prepare learners for qualifications and monitor progress.
• Maintain accurate records and support learner progression.
• Collaborate with prison staff and awarding bodies to ensure standards.
