Procurement Strategy & Services is part of the Finance, , Strategy, Planning & Analytics Directorate and was established to help the University deliver best value from its spending.

The primary role of Procurement Strategy & Services is to work with Faculties, Departments and external organizations to ensure the achievement of these key goals:

  • Delivery of sustainable outcomes & value for money from University and third party spend;
  • Delivery of projects and contracts to time, quality and cost, realizing benefits and minimizing risk;
  • Providing a professional source of reference to all University staff on best purchasing practice;
  • Reducing university administrative costs through continuous streamlining of the procurement process;
  • Providing policy standards and guidance on best practice in procurement, and assisting Faculties’ and Departments' in delivering against these standards;
  • Promoting and fostering collaborative procurement across the HE sector to deliver better value for money and better services; and provide innovative ways to develop the university’s commercial and procurement capability;
  • Driving forward the improvement of University capability in procurement project management through the development of people skills, processes and tools.
Procurement Strategy & Services has overall responsibility for all matters related to the effective and efficient Procurement of equipment, products and services within the university. They have a key role to play in ensuring the achievement of best value for money in the utilisation of the university’s £300 million non-pay budget and in ensuring that statutory obligations relating to all matters connected to Procurement are observed and fulfilled. The Department also ensures that commercial risks and the university’s supplier base are evaluated and adequately managed.

About the role:

The Sustainable Procurement Project Officer will work with staff at King’s and Suppliers to King’s in order to achieve the University’s Sustainability Objectives. In particular you will help progress the delivery of procurement related goals in the University’s Climate Action Plan.

You will also act as the single point of contact in the Procurement Team for questions relating to sustainable procurement and gather the necessary information in response. This will include assisting colleagues to co-ordinate the University’s submissions to sustainability-related rankings and league tables, together with the production of key sustainability reports, including the annual King’s Sustainability Report and SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Report.

You will also review current procurement policies to ensure they align with corporate objectives and best practice by collaborating with relevant colleagues inside and outside of King’s.

This is a fixed term contract of 18 months to undertake an important sustainable procurement project. Flexible working is on offer including part time work depending on the candidate’s ability to deliver the required outcomes.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in programme or project management, operations or administration.
  • Good understanding of the procurement processes, contract and supplier management including terms and conditions of contract.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of climate & sustainability issues.
  • Good analytical skills and confidence in working with and presenting data.
  • The ability to work independently and proactively, using own judgement and initiative when appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise written materials
  • Policy development and implementation
  • Experience of using sustainability measurement tools
