Job summary

The City of Liverpool College is seeking a Liverpool Waters Technician to provide technical support to staff and students in the Construction Crafts Department at the Liverpool Waters Centre. Qualifications

• Qualified in the subject area or relevant industry experience
• Significant, proven experience in a Construction Craft related position
• Specialist knowledge of construction equipment and machinery
• Ability to use a wide range of workshop-based equipment, portable power tools and hand tools safely and confidently
• Be experienced at heavy lifting and working at height
• Experience of co-ordinating a technical team to support a performance
• Ability to work both as a member of a team and independently using own initiative
• Have strong customer focus and communication skills
• Good practical skills and the ability to demonstrate to others
• Must be committed to their own Continuous Professional Development

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for the Construction Craft staff and students, and at times, other departments within the School.
• Supervise workshop spaces including maintenance of tools and equipment and prepare plans and schedules that meet the requirements of planned activities.
• Liaise with the Deputy Head of School to ensure an inventory list is in place and accounted for, to maximise the effectiveness of all specialist resources.
• Collaborate with the Technician Supervisor to monitor facility and resource upgrades and keep equipment current to industry standards (finance permitting).
• Use specialist knowledge within Construction Crafts to carry out a range of specialist tasks to support an effective, user friendly service.
• Provide general support for the teaching of students in the area.
• Set up and operate a range of equipment to an agreed service level.
• Demonstrate equipment and instruct staff/students on safe use of equipment and techniques.
• Support the design of the equipment/workshop layout.
• Carry out regular maintenance tasks; incl. testing to ensure equipment remains in good working condition; licences may be required for complex equipment.
• Establish systems to ensure accurate records of maintenance are kept.
• Transport goods and equipment around the School.
• Undertake risk assessments to ensure risks are understood and mitigated.
• Comply with health and safety guidelines, instructions and regulations.
• Monitor stock levels and order replacements in line with college regulations.
• Handle cash/cash equivalents when identified as necessary.
• Comply with financial regulations within own area of work.
• Ensure high levels of customer service and promote a positive image of the College.
• Resolve problems and refer to appropriate person as needed.
• Comply with set quality standards and procedures.
• Attend/arrange meetings to support work activities.
• Support College aims and values; complete tasks on time.
