We are looking for a trusted advisor on human rights and other aspects of social sustainability, including economic impact and large capital projects. You’ll help guide and influence how SSE manages, reports, and improves its approach to social sustainability—setting thoughtful standards and practices that align with our wider goals. Reporting directly to the Head of Social and Economic Sustainability, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across SSE including our Health & Safety, HR, and Procurement teams. Your work will help build value through enhanced sustainability credentials and create opportunities for leadership and innovation in this space.

Responsibilities
  • Be the day-to-day lead on human rights and modern slavery for SSE Group, providing advice on risk, due diligence, and reporting.
  • Shape and nurture SSE’s social and economic sustainability activities by aligning them with business goals and stakeholder expectations, championing our just transition principles.
  • Collaborate across teams to embed social sustainability into projects and procurement, ensuring practices are inclusive, responsible, and aligned with regulatory and investor needs.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to strengthen the quality of social data and reporting.
  • Support continuous learning and improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance social and economic value, while helping to manage risks through sustainable approaches.
  • Build meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing SSE in industry forums and supporting human rights due diligence in line with global standards.
  • An understanding of SSE’s business and sectors including renewables and networks; a commitment to continuous development and improvement including active engagement in professional networks.
  • Relevant industry experience, with a thoughtful and informed approach to sustainability and the challenges facing the energy sector.
  • Experience managing cross-functional project teams, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Confidence working with data, an eye for detail, with the ability to interpret and communicate insights that support informed decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in human rights, social sustainability, and due diligence in line with global standards.
  • Proven ability to work across functions (e.g., Health & Safety, HR, Procurement) and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate data into insights for decision-makers.
  • Understanding of regulatory and investor expectations related to social sustainability and reporting.
