Job Title – Environmental Sustainability and Governance (ESG) Manager

Location – Stamford Bridge, Cobham Training Ground, and Kingsmeadow

Permanent Role

Hours – 40 hours per week (5 days a week)

What We’re Looking For

We seek a Sustainability Manager to join Chelsea at an exciting time in our history. This new role, initially within the Facilities Department, will focus on maintaining and delivering the Club’s sustainability strategy, with opportunities for growth and increased responsibility over time.

Responsibilities
  • Own the maintenance and implementation of the Club’s sustainability policy and strategy, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Develop and monitor the Club’s environmental footprint, with support from relevant internal teams and third-party experts.
  • Collect and report on sustainability metrics for senior leadership briefings and public communications.
  • Initiate projects to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable practices across operations and stakeholders.
  • Ensure sustainability and ESG reporting complies with evolving industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Partner with the Club Foundation on initiatives supporting environmental and social goals.
  • Work with Communications to develop a public-facing sustainability strategy for fans, partners, and customers.
  • Chair the internal Sustainability Working Group, collaborating with Communications to raise awareness and drive positive change.
  • Proactively learn from industry best practices to continually improve the Club’s sustainability efforts.
Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Experience in a sustainability-related role, with an understanding of environmental challenges specific to sports or similar sectors.
  • Knowledge of current and upcoming ESG regulations and reporting requirements.

Nice to Haves:

  • Certification (e.g., IEMA) or degree in environmental sciences or related fields.
  • Project management skills for coordinating stakeholder-driven projects.
  • Knowledge of GHG accounting, environmental footprinting (carbon, plastics, water), and disclosure practices.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Stakeholder management and excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
