Job summary

Ocado Group in Hatfield is looking for a proactive sustainability professional to shape and execute our 2030 climate targets. You will lead the central sustainability team, embedding sustainable by design into product engineering, manufacture and operations.

The role blends leadership with hands-on delivery, requiring strong stakeholder management, financial acumen and experience delivering decarbonisation initiatives in retail or manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Experience in sustainability roles within industry (retail, logistics or manufacturing).
• Experience applying sustainable by design to product design and engineering.
• Track record delivering decarbonisation initiatives.
• Understanding of responsible AI principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Excellent stakeholder management with senior leaders.
• 5 years industrial engineering experience in multinational company.

• Climate strategy execution: overseeing day-to-day execution of the 'Climate' pillar, supporting the business to embed decarbonisation.
• Strategic planning: developing and refining plans and roadmaps for sustainability initiatives, ensuring they are ambitious, achievable and commercially sound.
• Employee engagement on sustainability matters
• Cross-functional collaboration: working with colleagues in Engineering, Product design, Operations, IT, Finance and Supply Chain to embed sustainability principles into “business as usual”
• Horizon scanning: keeping up to date with industry trends and emerging sustainability issues
• Embedding responsible AI use into everything we do.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our sustainability strategy and delivering our 2030 targets. You will be a key player in our central sustainability team, helping the business to embed “sustainable by design” principles into our product engineering manufacture and operations. The role blends leadership, strategic influence and hands-on contribution to advance our climate goals and influence our approach to circularity. It is ideal for a proactive engineer passionate about making a tangible impact on our environmental and ethical commitments.

About you

• Experience in sustainability role in industry in retail, logistics or manufacturing sectors
• Experience applying sustainable by design principles to product design and engineering
• Track record of delivering decarbonisation initiatives
• Understanding of responsible AI principles and AI use
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including with senior leaders
• Financial acumen; understanding of how to blend sustainability principles with financial principles when preparing a business case
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Proactive, self-starter who enjoys building relationships with people in a wide range of business disciplines
• Relevant degree or professional qualification in STEM subject
• Professional qualification in sustainable business
• 5 years industrial experience working in engineering role in multi-national company
