Job summary

MNRecruit is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join their London team on a hybrid pattern, with at least three days in the office. The role involves managing planning-related ecology projects, conducting field surveys and delivering biodiversity net gain assessments.

The successful candidate will prepare technical reports, map habitats using QGIS, and support multidisciplinary projects with practical biodiversity solutions. Excellent coordination and client liaison are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with habitat and ecological surveys (UKHab, PEAs).
• Able to produce clear, technical reports on ecology and biodiversity.
• Knowledge of SBM (Statutory Biodiversity Metric) and BNG assessments.
• Proactive and well-organised, with client relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage ecology and biodiversity projects from inception to completion, balancing client needs, delivery and budgets.
• Conduct field surveys including PEAs, UKHab habitat surveys and protected species surveys.
• Produce technical reports: PEAs, BNGA, BREEAM Ecology, protected species reports.
• Carry out BNG calculations using SBM.
• Map habitats and record survey data using COREO in the field.
• Contribute technical expertise to multidisciplinary projects and translate findings into practical biodiversity solutions.

They’re looking for a motivated Consultant Ecologist to join their London team, working on a varied portfolio of planning-related ecology and biodiversity projects.

This is an opportunity to combine fieldwork, technical reporting and biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments, while working alongside experienced specialists on projects of different scales.

What will you be doing?

• Managing ecology and biodiversity projects from inception through to completion, balancing client requirements, project delivery and budgets.
• Undertaking field surveys, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), UKHab habitat surveys and protected species surveys.
• Producing technical reports, including PEAs, Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments (BNGAs), BREEAM Ecology Credit Assessments and protected species reports.
• Carrying out BNG calculations using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric.
• Using QGIS to map habitats and assess biodiversity net gain.Mapping habitats and recording survey data in the field using COREO.
• Contributing technical expertise to larger, multidisciplinary projects and helping clients find practical solutions that benefit biodiversity.
