Help Shape a More Sustainable Future

At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Sustainability Assistant near your preferred Babcock location, including Bristol, Devonport, Leicester, London, Portsmouth, Rosyth or Warrington.

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional, recent graduate, or someone completing a graduate scheme who is passionate about sustainability and keen to build a rewarding career in a purpose-driven organisation.

The role

As a Sustainability Assistant, you will support the delivery of Babcock's sustainability strategy, helping the business monitor, report on and improve its environmental and social performance. Working within the Group Sustainability team and reporting directly to the Group Head of Sustainability Engagement, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of sustainability initiatives while developing valuable skills across engagement, reporting, environmental and social impact programmes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build your career in sustainability within a leading international organisation operating across defence, aerospace and engineering. Your work will support the needs of customers, regulators, investors, employees and communities, contributing to a safer, more sustainable future.

Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the delivery of the sustainability engagement strategy across the business.
  • Contributing to sustainability reporting activities, including annual report content and supporting materials.
  • Assisting with environmental, social and sustainability data projects across multiple functions.
  • Building relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the wider organisation to support sustainability objectives.
  • Managing competing priorities while handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and can be based at any of our main UK locations. Hybrid working patterns are available and occasional travel for onsite team meetings will be expected.

Essential Experience of the Sustainability Assistant:
  • Demonstrating a genuine commitment to environmental and/or social sustainability issues.
  • Showing a desire to develop transferable skills and build experience within a sustainability function.
  • Displaying curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn.
  • Possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills, alongside strong numeracy and digital literacy.
  • Applying strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively.
Qualifications for the Sustainability Assistant:

Essential:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Political Science, Geography, History, Literature, Social Sciences or Communications
  • Recent completion of a related graduate-level apprenticeship.

Desirable:

  • Additional study, training or experience related to sustainability, environmental management, corporate responsibility or environmental, social and governance reporting.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
