Acknowledging the construction industry’s significant contribution of 39% to global CO2 emissions, we recognise the imperative role we play in mitigating our company’s carbon footprint. The tangible manifestations of climate change, such as rising sea levels, escalating temperatures and heightened global rainfall, underscore the urgency to curtail global warming to a maximum of 1.5ºC to avert profound disruptions to our daily lives.
We have been collaborating with Grosvenor and SBTi Services to assess our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and establish ambitious science-based targets for the 2024 calendar year. This partnership is vital for understanding our environmental impact and aligning our sustainability efforts with the latest climate science. Once we analyse this information, we are committed not only to offsetting our carbon emissions but, more importantly, to reducing them significantly in the upcoming year. We believe proactive reduction is essential for making a lasting impact on our carbon footprint.
Achieving these goals requires collective effort across our organisation. Every team member plays a critical role in our sustainability initiatives, and we encourage your input, ideas, and support. Whether proposing innovative strategies, sharing best practices, or identifying new opportunities for improvement, your contributions are invaluable as we work toward a more sustainable future.
We are excited about the journey ahead and optimistic that, with your involvement, we can create meaningful change and set a benchmark for responsible environmental stewardship in our industry.
QFlow
We have recently partnered with QFlow, whose systems enable us to make informed decisions regarding cost, carbon, and quality by collecting real-time materials and waste data at the source. Together with QFlow, we share a vision of utilising the resources we need in the most efficient way possible, delivering a built environment that meets the needs of society without compromising future generations.
MCD Heritage is proud to support the Men Shed Battersea by donating timber offcuts from recent projects to help support their mission of bringing people together to make, repair, and repurpose.
Aligning with our own commitments to create positive social impact and reducing our carbon footprint, Men Shed provides a welcoming space for individuals to engage in creative projects while also reducing social isolation and improving well-being. It’s a great initiative that fosters community connection and helps combat loneliness.
By re-purposing leftover materials, we’re not just reducing waste, we’re also helping to build something meaningful for the people of Battersea. A big thank you to the team at Men Shed for the amazing work they do.
We’re excited to continue exploring sustainable practices in our work and contributing to local communities.
