Job description

Overview

Survey Crew Chief

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is currently searching for a qualified full-time Survey Crew Chief. This position will lead a survey team in the field collecting data to support design activities, boundary surveying, providing sketches, and layout to support construction activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide technical expertise to internal and external clients
  2. Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types
  3. Organize field staking materials as necessary
  4. Operate GPS, total stations, scanners, and data collectors
  5. Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders
  6. Provide communication to the office teams regarding project status, daily progress and issues
  7. Maintain productive working relationships with clients and coworkers
  8. Adhere to the company’s Safety, Quality Management and Equipment Maintenance policies
  9. Ensure division, regional, and company policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey service.
  10. Lead by example – display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.
Required Skills
  1. Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  2. Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural or urban surroundings
  3. Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
  4. Ability to work in outdoor conditions subject to weather, insects, and changing environments
Required Experience
  1. Ability to effectively lead a survey crew and train/mentor survey crew members
  2. Must be able to operate a total station and GPS in both static and RTK modes surveying activities pertaining to control networks, boundaries, ALTA’s, topography, and construction staking.
  3. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle with a valid license and clean driving history
  4. OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid or ability and willingness to acquire it
  5. Must be able to perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence
  6. Basic “office suite” computer skills
Preferred Experience
  1. An Associate’s Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related area of study
  2. Coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff
  3. FAA Part 107 UAS License
