The post involves clinical leadership, supervising trainee ACPs and supporting the wider MDT, with a focus on service development, transforming and modernising pathways of care to optimise SAU for Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and planned reviews while maintaining safety and quality of care. The post-holder will contribute to clinical governance, audit, research, training and education within the Emergency Surgical Team.

The role requires a strong background in procedural skills (desirable) and opportunities to develop new skills relevant to SAU pathways and, where required, inpatient care. The post suits a dynamic individual committed to optimising patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exercise advanced clinical skills, judgement, discretion and decision-making in clinical care, supported by professional portfolio evidence.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team and allied specialties to ensure efficient, high-quality, accessible clinical care at Warwick Hospital.
  • Perform clinical duties that may include shifts in SAU, post-take ward rounds and work with the surgical on-call team in the Emergency Department, with regular evening, weekend and bank holiday work.
  • During winter and periods of high demand, provide autonomous care and expedite discharge using criteria-led approaches.
  • Dedicate 20% of contracted hours to non-clinical pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice: leadership, education and research.
  • Lead new processes to improve patient flow and rapid streaming of surgical referrals, including 7-day working where required.
  • Contribute significantly to clinical governance, audit, research, training and education, providing leadership to the clinical team in one or more areas.
