Job description

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help gather valuable feedback from visitors at Anderton Boat Lift. Your conversations will give visitors a chance to share what they love, what they’d like to see changed, and how we can make the Anderton Boat Lift even more welcoming.

Your duties will involve:

  1. Observing and noting the behaviours and general profile of visitors as they explore the site
  2. Approaching visitors in a friendly, engaging, and welcoming manner
  3. Inviting visitors to take part in a short survey, clearly explaining its purpose
  4. Using a tablet to read out survey questions and accurately record visitor responses
  5. Thanking visitors for their time and wishing them a pleasant onward journey
  6. Following guidance on health, safety, and data privacy
  7. Reporting any issues or feedback to your designated contact at Canal & River Trust

This is a flexible volunteering opportunity that suits people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or just a couple of sessions a month, your contribution will make a real difference. You’ll need to be confident using a tablet so you can record responses, but no other previous knowledge or experience is needed. We’ll provide a comprehensive training session before you start, so you’ll be confident and ready to gather feedback.

So, if you enjoy talking to people and want to play a part in improving Anderton Boat Lift, we’d love to hear from you!

Why we want you

Our Supporter volunteers ensure that the day-to-day nuts and bolts of the waterways happen, whether that’s monitoring activities on the towpath or supporting the running of teams and processes behind the scenes. What you will be doing

  1. Supporting with administration
  2. Supporting with data collection
  3. Creating content on social media
  4. Taking photos for promotion and celebration
  5. This role can potentially be done from home.
  6. When you register as a volunteer, we will ask you about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and risk assess these as needed.

The skills you need

  • Reliable
  • Organised
  • While not essential, many activities in this role involve using either computer or mobile devices.

What's in it for you

  • The opportunity to volunteer flexibly, often from home
  • Be part of a friendly team of supportive colleagues and volunteers
  • Learn new skills and gain a better understanding of the day-to-day workings of the waterways
