Job description

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help gather valuable feedback from visitors at the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port. Your conversations will give visitors a chance to share what they love, what they’d like to see changed, and how we can make the museum even more welcoming.

Your duties will involve:

  1. Observing and noting the behaviours and general profile of visitors as they explore the site
  2. Approaching visitors in a friendly, engaging, and welcoming manner
  3. Inviting visitors to take part in a short survey, clearly explaining its purpose
  4. Using a tablet to read out survey questions and accurately record visitor responses
  5. Thanking visitors for their time and wishing them a pleasant onward journey
  6. Following guidance on health, safety, and data privacy
  7. Reporting any issues or feedback to your designated contact at Canal & River Trust

This is a flexible volunteering opportunity that suits people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or just a couple of sessions a month, your contribution will make a real difference. You’ll need to be confident using a tablet so you can record responses, but no other previous knowledge or experience is needed. We’ll provide a comprehensive training session before you start, so you’ll be confident and ready to gather feedback.

Why we want you

Our Supporter volunteers ensure that the day-to-day nuts and bolts of the waterways happen, whether that’s monitoring activities on the towpath or supporting the running of teams and processes behind the scenes. This can include working with our Social Media Team, assisting with location and filming for productions, supporting our teams within offices, or conducting audits on the towpath.

What you will be doing

  1. Supporting with administration
  2. Supporting with data collection
  3. Creating content on social media
  4. Taking photos for promotion and celebration
  5. This role can potentially be done from home
  6. When you register as a volunteer, we will ask you about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and risk assess these as necessary

  3. While not essential, many activities in this role involve using computer or mobile devices
