Job summary

Hft is a leading social care provider dedicated to empowering learning-disabled adults to live life their way. As a Waking Night Support Worker, you’ll help people stay safe, comfortable and supported through the night, promoting independence and dignity.

Your role focuses on calm, person-centred care, responding to needs, recording wellbeing, and collaborating with daytime teams to ensure seamless support. Flexibility for evenings and weekends is essential.

  • Strong communication skills to build trusting relationships.
  • Willingness to learn and work towards a Health and Social Care qualification.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, waking and sleep-in shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, attentive, and person-centred night-time support.
  • Respond calmly to needs, offering reassurance and personal care when required.
  • Carry out night-time routines with kindness and respect, ensuring security.
  • Monitor wellbeing and follow care plans, reporting concerns to daytime team.
  • Promote independence, encouraging confidence in night-time routines.
  • Create a safe, positive environment so individuals can rest well and wake ready.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity of care between day and night.

What You’ll Be Doing

Every night is different, but your role focuses on empowering independence, choice, and dignity:

  • Provide safe, attentive, and person-centred support throughout the night, ensuring comfort, dignity, and wellbeing.
  • Respond calmly and proactively to any needs, whether that’s offering reassurance, supporting with personal care, or handling unexpected situations.
  • Carry out night-time routines with kindness and respect, helping people feel secure and valued.
  • Monitor and record wellbeing, following care plans and reporting any concerns to the daytime team to ensure seamless support.
  • Promote independence wherever possible, encouraging confidence in night-time routines and decision-making.
  • Create a safe, positive environment where individuals can rest well and wake ready to achieve their goals the next day.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, ensuring consistency and continuity of care between day and night teams.
Who you are

You’re passionate about standing alongside learning disabled adults and supporting them to live life their way. You’ll bring:

  • Patience, supportiveness, and respect for people’s choices
  • A positive, encouraging approach that celebrates achievement
  • Strong communication skills to build trusting relationships
  • Willingness to learn and work towards a Health and Social Care qualification
  • Confidence providing personal support when it’s needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, waking and sleep-in shifts
  • Experience in social care is welcome but not essential; your attitude and values matter most
