Job summary

Royal Mencap Society in Northallerton invites applications for Support Workers to join our teams across our services. You’ll help individuals with learning disabilities with daily activities and provide emotional support, working to promote independence and wellbeing.

We care for three gentlemen in a supported living setting; duties include assisting with mobility, personal care, community involvement, and following Positive Behaviour Support.

Qualifications

  • No specific experience required; training and development provided.
  • Support with mobility, personal care and communication as needed.
  • We use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to understand needs and promote independence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily activities and provide emotional support.
  • Help individuals access community activities and maintain routines.
  • Provide mobility and personal care where needed.
  • Support PBS approach to promote independence and positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to rota planning in a 24hr service with advance notice.
  • Support sleep-in arrangements with enhanced pay when applicable.

Job description

Mencap are seeking Support Workers on both permanent and relief contracts to join our incredible teams in our services in Northallerton.

As a Support Worker, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs.

From assisting with daily activities to providing emotional support, you’ll play a vital role in their life.

We supportthree gentlemenwho live together in a supported living service in Northallerton. We are looking to grow our lively, inclusive, knowledgeable and exceptionally friendly staff team.

The gentlemen we support lead individual lifestyles and enjoy a variety of activities, including attending day opportunities, visiting local cafés, spending time with family and friends, going out in the community, and taking part in activities that reflect their personal interests.

Two of the gentlemen are older and enjoy a more relaxed pace of life, while the third enjoys regular community involvement. The people we support have a range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mobility needs, and support with communication and emotional wellbeing.

Some individuals require support with mobility and personal care, while others benefit from gentle encouragement and reassurance to access activities, maintain routines, and engage with their local community. We use aPositive Behaviour Support (PBS)approach, focusing on understanding each person's needs, promoting independence, and supporting positive outcomes.

This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same, and where building meaningful relationships is at the heart of the support we provide.

Contract options:

  • Permanent Hours 30
  • Relief

All our services are 24hr care. We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life!

There is also a non-contractual sleep-in available where you will receive an enhanced flat-rate payment of £63.70.

Mencap holds a Home Office sponsorship licence; however, due to current restrictions on our allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must therefore have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
