Job description

Denley House in Bournemouth aims to provide a better quality of life for alcohol dependent adults. Our target group is alcohol dependent drinkers aged 55 years plus, who face safeguarding challenges. These individuals all have care packages supported by external agencies.

All customers are referred through social services, the Community Mental Health Team, Learning Development, and street homeless services. After a social services assessment, we conduct a risk assessment and invite the individual for an interview. A package of care is then agreed upon and implemented by a social worker prior to the customer moving in.

Position

Are you passionate about making a lasting difference in people's lives? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team supporting adults with co-occurring mental health challenges and alcohol dependency.

You will develop customer-led support using person-centered and psychologically informed approaches, providing information, advice, and hands-on support to individuals who are actively drinking and experiencing mental health difficulties. Your work will contribute to delivering a high-quality, safe, and dynamic service in line with BCHAs policies, procedures, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

This role operates on a 7-day rotating shift pattern. You will work within the BCHA Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) framework to enable individuals to make lasting changes and move toward independent living.

Your Role Will Include
  • Initiating meaningful engagement to help individuals achieve their personal recovery goals
  • Supporting those with dual diagnosis to reduce barriers to treatment, care, and ongoing support
  • Collaborating with a team to ensure consistent, high-quality support
  • Building and extending partnerships with external mental health and addiction support services
  • Managing emergency situations with support from colleagues and on-call managers
  • Using creative and proactive approaches to meet each person's unique needs
  • Delivering innovative and engaging learning activities to support personal development
  • Contributing to the general upkeep and cleanliness of the service
We Are Committed To
  • Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE)
  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • Strengths-based and holistic approaches
What We Offer
  • Full induction and a personal development plan
  • Core training including safeguarding, first aid, and health & safety
  • Opportunities for specialist training in mental health awareness, solution-focused techniques, and more
  • The chance to gain formal qualifications and grow your career within BCHA
  • A supportive and flexible working culture with a 7-day work week rota

We welcome applicants with or without previous sector experience; what matters most is your ability to engage, support, and empower people.

A DBS check will be required, as the role involves working with vulnerable adults. BCHA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all individuals we support.

Requirements
  • Ability to work alone following internal guidance and safety procedures
  • Ability to manage young people's behaviour in line with risk management plans and with the aim of minimizing exclusions/unplanned departures
  • Ability to liaise and work cohesively with internal and external groups, forums, and partners
  • Experience in writing basic reports, letters, and other correspondence
  • Moderate IT literacy, including email and Word
Other Information
