Job summary

Carlow Carlisle House is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to create a safe and therapeutic environment for service users. The role focuses on helping individuals find solutions to substance misuse challenges within a compassionate, Christian ethos.

Hours are 22.5 per week, including evenings and weekend shifts with sleep-in duties. You will support recovery activities, administer medications, and work with a multidisciplinary team to maintain high care standards in a faith-based setting.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent.
• Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults) for NI/Wales or equivalent preferred.
• Registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) or willingness to register.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe, welcoming environment for service users by adhering to policies.
• Support residents to engage in activities to aid recovery.
• Use collaborative approaches to facilitate open conversations with service users.
• Administer medication per policy and maintain confidentiality.
• Answer advice and support calls and refer to resources as needed.
• Contribute to health and safety compliance and accompany service users to appointments.
• Maintain accurate electronic and manual records per procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and participate in mandatory training.

Main Function of Job:

The Support Worker will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for our service users. By providing support through open, collaborative conversations, you will assist individuals in finding alternative solutions to their substance misuse challenges. About the role

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Promote a safe, welcoming environment for service users by adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.
• Encourage and support residents to engage in recreational and therapeutic activities to aid their recovery.
• Use an Integrative Systemic / Collaborative approach when working with service users to facilitate open, meaningful conversations.
• Administer medication according to Carlisle House policy, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
• Answer "advice and support" telephone calls, providing guidance or referring to appropriate resources when needed.
• Assist in implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures within the facility.
• Accompany service users to external appointments and activities, as required and appropriate.
• Help service users access information and services related to employment, education, training, and welfare.
• Support alcohol and drug testing procedures in line with Carlisle House policy.
• Maintain accurate and confidential electronic and manual records in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure the smooth operation of the service.
• Participate in mandatory training to enhance professional development and maintain quality standards.
• Fulfill the role of person-in-charge when assigned on the rota, following successful completion of probation.
• Work within the Christian ethos of Carlisle House, demonstrating respect, acceptance, and compassion at all times.
• Be available for sleep-in duties as required by the rota.
• Carry out any other relevant duties as required to support the ongoing success of the Centre.

• Experience or a strong interest in supporting individuals with substance misuse issues.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with service users and team members.

• Willingness to participate in training and further development.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in duties.

Required Criteria

• Grade C GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
• Knowledge and understanding of substance use: reasons and contemporary treatments
• Knowledge and understanding of establishing collaborative and empowering relationships
• Experience of maintaining records electronically
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and sleepovers
• Registration or be willing to register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council
• Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the ethos of Carlisle House i.e. respect, acceptance and compassion
• At least 6 month’s experience of working in a setting where the primary focus of support is with adults who have mental health or substance use difficulties
