Job description

We are looking for a support worker / carer to join the team around an 18-year-old severely disabled, autistic, and epileptic teenager with additional health needs. He lives at home with his family. He has 24-hour 1:1 support, and for some activities, 2:1 support (e.g., visiting the pool, special needs bike club, visiting the park). He often needs a lot of care and patience, especially when he cannot participate in activities.

About the Teen:

He is a friendly, non-verbal, very autistic young man with severe epilepsy, a movement disorder, and additional health needs. He can walk only with support and requires help with all daily life elements. He enjoys being active and entertained, so applicants should be fit, strong, fun, and patient. He can have seizures or health issues requiring hospital visits. His support team helps with daily routines, community access, self-help skills, communication, personal care, laundry, and maintaining a clean environment.

About you:

This role suits someone with experience supporting individuals with disabilities and autism, with a genuine interest in these areas. Willingness to learn care procedures like catheterisation, PEG, and Peristeen is essential; prior experience is preferred but training will be provided. You must follow the behaviour plan (ABA) and attend team meetings with our ABA Consultant. The position may suit students in related fields (Psychology, Nursing, SEN Pedagogy, Physio, etc.) for part-time work (26+ hours). Extra bank hours are available.

You must be able to swim, be a non-smoker/non-vaper, and comfortable around dogs. Flexibility to work some weekends, bank holidays, and both day and night shifts is required. Night shifts are a part of the role, so please do not apply if you are not willing to do waking night shifts. Ideally, this is your main job, not a second job, and you should be willing to commit for at least 12 months. Living in North London or nearby is preferred.

What’s great about this job:

  • Excellent training opportunities with a thorough handover from experienced staff.
  • Regular training on health and care needs, including seizure management and behavioural support.
  • Flexibility around your studies or other commitments.
  • Unique from care home positions; more personalized and engaging work.

About the Job:

Hourly rate: £15 during 6-month training and probation, then rising to £16. Part-time (minimum 30 hours+), including day and occasional night shifts. Bank hours are available when colleagues are away. Potential to become full-time after probation. The role may be on a freelance basis with a UTR or a part-time contract via a care agency. Sponsorship visas are not supported.

How to Apply:

If interested, please carefully read this ad, then send us a brief cover letter explaining why you are suitable and your availability. Include your CV, references, and DBS when requested. We will contact promising candidates for an interview (face-to-face or video call). We look forward to hearing from you.
