Job description

Support Worker / Befriender (Male) x 2 Ref: 02/Ayr/JL

Location: Ayr

Posts (x 2): 16 hours

Hours: Variable – to be discussed at interview

Pay: £12.60 per hour

Male Support Workers (x 2) required to befriend and support a 34 year old man who lives in his own home in Ayr. Applicants must have a genuine passion for providing excellent care and support and can demonstrate professionalism and commitment. You will provide support throughout the day, personal care and various health activities to support wellbeing. Some basic admin skills required to assist in diary planning and daily/monthly reporting. The gentleman has mobility issues and learning disabilities. He uses a wheelchair when out and about and requires significant assistance with manoeuvring this.

Some of the care and support you will assist with is provided within the employer’s home therefore, confidentiality and respect for the employer’s privacy is of the utmost importance.

SOCIAL SUPPORT:

May include assistance to attend the local swimming pool on a regular basis therefore applicants must be good swimmers who are comfortable in the water. Assistance to attend other social events as required including going to football games, going for a walk, days out, cinema, and socialising.

HOUSEHOLD TASKS:

May include preparing breakfast, lunch, and evening meal, making hot drinks/snacks, and a small amount of cleaning, e.g., ensuring surfaces are cleaned and dishes washed and put away after meals.

GENERAL TASKS:

May include going to the local shops and assisting with shopping.

The above post is subject to the following:

There is 5.6 weeks A/L x contracted hours, per annum attached to the post inclusive of Public Holidays. Must be flexible as shifts will vary week to week in line with employer’s needs. Will also be required to help out when other staff are off on leave or sick. Job Descriptions are set around the employer’s needs, as is the rota and either may change in the future according to support needs.

Employer has his own vehicle and drivers with current clean driver’s licence preferred.

Successful applicant will be required to provide 2 up-to-date reference contacts as well as undergo a new or update of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Disclosure.

There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post, with a 1 week's notice within this time if the post is not working out.

Previous experience in a caring role would be advantageous but not necessary. This post would be suitable for someone local due to some late finishing times.
