Job summary

A leading educational recruitment agency seeks Support Workers to assist children with special educational needs in York. Responsibilities include one-on-one support and collaboration with teachers to implement education plans. Candidates must have a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care and at least 6 months of relevant experience. The role demands compassion and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Have at least 6 months experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a care or school setting.
  • Be a strong and engaging communicator.
  • Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help young people overcome their barriers.
  • Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Responsibilities

GSL Education are seeking a number of Support Workers to work at our Client School in York, starting As soon as possible. If you are currently a Support Worker, with an interest of working in the education sector, this job may be for you.

Support Worker Responsibilities
  • Assist students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs on 1:1 small groups basis.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN coordinators to implement and monitor individualized education plans.
  • Working with the class teachers to develop sensory, speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Provide physical support where necessary, including assistance with mobility, personal care, and feeding.
  • Implement positive behavior strategies and interventions to manage and support students’ behavior.
Support Worker Requirements
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher, such as an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • Have at least 6 months experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a care of school setting.
