We have an exciting opportunity within Community Services for Support Workers, working within the West Kent locality, supporting individuals with a learning disability to access and be part of their local community.

You will be working from various hubs within this locality and will also be expected to work within community settings, supporting service users to plan and achieve outcome-focused sessions. Although your base will be in Gravesend or Dartford, you will be expected to travel across the locality as needed.

You will assist in meeting the needs and aspirations of people with learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities by using a person-centred approach, providing encouragement, support, and assistance, promoting social inclusion, rights, and choices under the supervision of a senior staff member and within County and Directorate procedures, as well as primary care legislation. The goal is to enable individuals to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

Relevant experience in care and support of individuals (including voluntary, paid, or personal experience) in the public, private, or voluntary sectors, especially in caring for adults and working with people with learning disabilities, is required.

An awareness of the needs of people with learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, autism, epilepsy, and other disabilities is necessary.

You may be required to escort individuals on the service minibus to access community sessions.

You will need to hold a Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care, NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent, or be willing to undertake this training. You must complete a satisfactory induction, including the Care Certificate, medication workbook, and all mandatory training for the role.

KCC offers benefits such as the Cycle to Work Scheme to support employee well-being and development.

The standards for the role are detailed in the Job Description and Person Specification.

This role requires holding a full UK Driving Licence.

This position is customer-facing, and under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016), the council must ensure post holders have sufficient command of spoken English/Welsh for effective job performance, as outlined in the Job Description/Person Specification.
