Job summary

Thera Trust in Paignton is seeking compassionate individuals to join our team as support workers. We offer full-time, part-time and relief contracts with a guaranteed hourly salary and training to help you empower adults with learning disabilities in their daily lives.

You will help people develop skills, provide personal and emotional support, and assist with planning, home management, leisure, employment, and travel.

Qualifications

  • No previous experience or qualifications required; full training provided.
  • Compassionate, caring, confident and resilient.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with a high level of motivation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; professional.
  • Willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment and solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Support adults with learning disabilities to develop new skills.
  • Provide personal and emotional support and help plan and manage the home.
  • Assist with leisure activities, employment, personal interests or travel.
  • Work in clients' homes or out in the community.
  • Use a person-centred approach to empower independence.

Every person you support is different, so the support you provide will vary from person to person.


Day-to-day, this could include helping someone develop new skills, offering personal and emotional support, or supporting them to plan and manage their own home. You might also help with leisure activities, employment, personal interests, or travel.


It’s a role that can be fun and rewarding, and at times challenging and demanding — often in equal measure. You could be supporting people in their own home or out and about in their community.
