The Service
Sherwood House is a registered care home which runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We provide person-centred care and support to 19 elderly residents who have chosen this home as their place to retire and live happily ever after. Like them, you will also feel a change of pace thanks to the home’s scenery, as it is situated in the small village of Linby who won Nottinghamshire's "best kept village" award in 2013. A local tale recounts that the humble pancake was invented by the women of Linby to celebrate the defeat of Danish invaders.
The Role
As a Support Worker at Sherwood House, your role will involve offering practical and emotional support to our residents. You will support them to live as independently as possible whilst allowing the residents to guide their support needs. As Sherwood House has a Chef and an Activity Coordinator in the team, the focus of your role will be supporting residents to maintain their personal hygiene (which includes providing personal care), supporting them to spend time in their community, and providing companionship.
Due to the needs of the residents, there may be elements of moving & handling and risk management involved in the role; as such, you will need to be willing and able to undertake these duties. Take a look at the Role Profile at the bottom of the page to find out more!
What we are looking for
Our ideal candidate has experience in the hospitality sector and great customer service skills. Previous experience in a care role is highly desirable. We are looking for a calm, friendly, and resilient candidate who is willing to go the extra mile for our service users and has a good understanding of age-related health needs. Communication and attention to detail should be at the forefront of the support you offer. We would love to hear from you if you are enthusiastic about protecting the human rights of individuals and are committed to supporting individuals to have a good quality of choice and decision making about their lives, as it is our mission to assist residents to have a meaningful life.
We provide full training and will ensure that you are well equipped and confident to hit the ground running. In order to be successful in your application and your role, your personal values should align with NCHA’s CLEAR values.
Working Hours
All successful candidates will be required to work on a rota basis over a 24-hour period including weekends and bank holidays; a bonus is paid for waking nights. Shift Patterns include: 07:30-14:30, 14:00-21:00, and 20:45-07:45.
Travelling to Sherwood House
Due to its location, candidates who can drive are highly desirable, as public transport involves a 20-minute walk to the care home from The National School in Hucknall, which is the furthest the threes buses (Trent Barton) can take you to in your journey to us. The home is a 7-minute drive from the High Street in Hucknall.
