Every child should have the opportunity to go for a day out at Croyde Bay, visit a trampoline park, or go to Penny Well Farm! Bideford offers many activities for children. We ensure the children supported by Phoenix Learning and Care experience the same opportunities as their peers – but we need your help.

Our children have social and emotional needs related to Autism, ADHD, or Trauma. They require good role models to help them flourish. With your support, we can make that happen. The children may have difficult days and need extra help at home, especially if overwhelmed. Your support on those days will make the good days even more special. You'll see the positive impact of your relationships as the children grow.

This role involves working in our one-bedroom homes in and around Bideford, allowing you to build strong relationships with the team and children. Support is needed 24 hours a day, enabling you to work your full week in 2-3 days, totaling only 10 shifts per month!

A day in the life of a Support Worker will involve:

  • Supporting children to have the best quality of life possible through activities like baking, outings, or holidays. You might ensure they have a healthy diet or take them to Saunton Sands.
  • Ensuring children are kept safe and their plans are suitable for their needs. You will monitor their development by keeping our systems and records up to date. Full training will be provided.

To be a successful Support Worker, you’ll need:

  • Patience, compassion, and resilience – as children may have experienced trauma affecting their behavior.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written, to interact with various people and update plans.
  • A driving license – to transport children in our company vehicles.
  • Flexibility – including sleeping at the home during shifts. The role allows working 2-3 days per week.
  • If you lack a qualification in residential childcare, we will fund this within your first two years, with support along the way.

In return, you'll get:

  • Holidays: 28 days annual leave plus an extra day for your birthday after one year. Bank holiday work may be required.
  • Pension scheme: 5% employee contribution with 3% employer contribution.
  • Learning & Development: Opportunities for professional growth.
  • Discounts: Access via Blue Light Card and our employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support: Access to mental health services, confidential check-ins, and group sessions.
  • Cycle2Work: Discounted bicycles through the scheme.
  • DBS: We cover the cost of an enhanced DBS check.

After 12 months, you’ll be eligible for Medicash, covering medical and wellbeing expenses, including access to a GP. You’ll also receive life assurance at twice your salary and additional discounts.

We conduct online checks as part of safer recruitment, which may include social media profile reviews.

At Phoenix Learning and Care, we value diversity and inclusivity, fostering an environment where all team members can be their true selves without fear of discrimination.
