We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to supporting our clients with learning disabilities and/or autism and are proficient swimmers. As a Support Worker, your primary responsibility will be to assist our clients in leading happy, fulfilling, and independent lives by engaging in activities within our center and out in the community.

Our shifts vary from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with training days extending until 8 p.m. The centre operates from Monday to Saturday, providing a wide range of activities such as personal training sessions, digital skills workshops, health and wellbeing programs, local outings, movie nights, bowling, and swimming.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in helping our clients build positive relationships and become valued members of their local community. Your duties as a Support Worker will vary based on the specific needs of our service users. These include providing personal care, fostering excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and supporting community and social inclusion to enhance life skills and individuality.

Essential skills for this role include intermediate-level swimming abilities. Additionally, you should be proficient in maintaining accurate records, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, and demonstrating resilience, determination, and impartiality in challenging situations. A willingness to embrace new digital knowledge and skills, act flexibly and innovatively, and respond positively to feedback is also essential.

At HF Mencap, we strongly encourage all our colleagues to receive the Covid-19 vaccine to safeguard each other and the individuals we support. Furthermore, all support workers are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, which HF Mencap will cover.
