Job description

Job Title: Support Worker

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: GBP26,549.63 per annum, pro rata (GBP27,722.51 per annum, pro rata, after 18 months of successful performance)

Working Hours: Full Time - 37.5 hours

Working Pattern: 3-week rolling rota, including bank holidays and weekends

Location: Newton House, Gloucester

The difference you will make as a Support Worker

You will work from one of our supported services, providing support to our customers in various ways. For example, connecting them with employability coaches and other support agencies, helping them manage their money, signing up for benefits, or assisting with moving to a more permanent home. Your role is to boost their confidence and support them on their journey to rebuild their lives. You will need to keep records of all interactions, so some admin work is involved. This role can be tough at times, but it is also incredibly rewarding. You should be resilient, empathetic, and able to leave work at work.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience working with vulnerable people
  • Experience delivering structured support and risk management
  • A caring and empathetic nature, with a resilient, can-do attitude, and the ability to work as part of a team
  • An understanding of supporting vulnerable individuals, which could include personal lived experience of homelessness or substance addiction
  • Flexibility to work hours that meet customer and business needs, including lone working and outside normal office hours

Role Profile

Supporting Customers: We employ Psychologically Informed and Trauma-Informed Care principles to support our customers in developing new ways of thinking and moving towards independence. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading co-produced, bespoke support and move-on plans involving key stakeholders
  • Organising and reviewing support and risk plans regularly or after significant changes
  • Engaging customers to meet outcomes and develop life skills
  • Assisting with day-to-day support and tenancy matters
  • Identifying opportunities for employment, education, and training, and supporting customers to access these
  • Signposting to external support services like food banks and community resources
  • Supporting customers to be 'tenancy ready' and financially independent
  • Monitoring healthcare needs and liaising with professionals
  • Empowering self-management of medication following procedures
  • Leading support initiatives, including group work
  • Ensuring customer safety by following safeguarding procedures, recognizing risks, and escalating issues
  • Recording and updating support information accurately and factually
