Support Worker

We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Worker to play a vital role in providing support at Shore House, a high support service for individuals with mental health difficulties and dual diagnosis.

Position: Support Worker

Location: Brighton (Kemptown)

Salary: £27,526 ( PLUS £1,469 Anti-Social Hours Enhancement per annum,

Hours: 37 hours (work an average of 37 hours per week over a rolling rota. This includes a mixture of early and late shifts 7 days per week)

Contract: Permanent

About the role:

As a Support Worker, you will be working for a people-led organisation whose mission and values is to inspire change across Sussex.

Shore House is an innovative service providing accommodation and 24-hour support to 20 people with mental health diagnoses and complex needs - this includes those with a dual diagnosis, such as alcohol or substance misuse. Support is delivered both 1:1 and in groups to deliver personalised and flexible programmes of support to build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed for independent living within an 18-month timeframe. We work closely with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust adult community mental health services to meet the needs of clients. Working at Shore House, you will be able to make a diffidence in the lives of vulnerable individuals who face adversity in society.

As a Support Worker at Shore House, you will provide collaborative support and practical assistance to vulnerable clients with mental health diagnoses and complex support needs. You will work in a psychologically and trauma informed way to promote personal development and empower individuals to achieve their goals and move on to lower support accommodation. As a Support Worker, you will undertake numerous tasks such as, supporting clients in their transition into the service, promoting meaningful engagement, coordinating and attending appointments, co-producing outcomes star support plans and risk assessments, supporting to maintain health and safety, the safe administration of medications, etc. This role is very fulfilling, you will be making a difference and promoting change by supporting vulnerable people to achieve their goals and progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assess the needs of clients upon referral and to develop a relationship involving coaching, mental health support, practical help, and referrals to other agencies where appropriate.
  • To use BHT Sussex client database to maintain professional casework files, complete care notes, complete and update support plans and risk assessments whilst promoting co-production.
  • To work alongside Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in the provision of recovery-focused, structured, ongoing support to clients.
  • To participate in a work rota, which will include shifts and weekend working.

To develop a close network of communications, co-operation, joint projects, and skills exchange with agencies in the community.

To work within all BHT Sussex Policy and Project procedures. To undertake such duties appropriate to the grade and character of the work as may be reasonably required.

Person Specification:

To be successful in the role of Support Worker you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of the organisation. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:

  • Significant experience of providing emotional and practical support for vulnerable adults who have complex needs.
  • Experience developing structured and person-centred support plans in collaboration with clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure prioritise and manage workload.
  • Experience of working in partnership with a range of agencies and stakeholders including in the voluntary and statutory sector.
  • Thorough understanding of risk management and health and safety and the ability to implement policy and protocol.
