Support Time Recovery Worker

  • To work as part of a team that provides secondary mental health services, focusing on the direct needs of service users, working across boundaries of care, organisation and role.
  • To provide support and give time to an allocated group of service users in order to promote their recovery and maintain them in their community environment helping them to build their own support network.
  • To support service users to identify their needs and to assist care coordinators to plan, implement and evaluate individual care plans.
  • To have the individual service user's needs at the fore at all times and support the service user to work towards their identified goals.
  • To use agreed values and skills to underpin day-to-day work.
  • To be actively involved in the delivery of Initial Interventions with the support and guidance of a Psychologist or an Occupational Therapist.

What is High Cost Area Allowance?

The High-Cost Area (HCA) allowance, also referred to as London Weighting, is a payment made to employees who work in London and the surrounding areas.

As this post is based in Dartford, the successful applicant will receive an additional payment each month.

  • 5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,258 per year and a maximum payment of £2,121 per year (the agreed annual amount will be divided into 12 equal amounts and paid monthly).

The salary listed is inclusive of the High-Cost Area Allowance.

Main duties of the job

  • To be actively involved in the delivery of Initial Interventions with the support and guidance of a psychologist or OT.

Job responsibilities

KEY DELIVERABLES

  1. Working with service users and carers
  • To act at all times in the best interest of service users within appropriate, transparent boundaries as part of a recovery-oriented mental health service.
  • To be aware of any Advance Directives made by service users regarding their care and treatment.
  • To assist in delivering a high standard of support to service users and their carers, promoting their equality, dignity, and mental well-being at all times.
  • To facilitate service user and carer input into the development of best practice.
  1. Communication
  • To promote effective communication and relationships with people who are troubled or depressed.
  • To establish and maintain working relationships with people who have difficulty communicating.
  • To establish and maintain working relationships with people who lack trust and motivation.
  1. Engagement
  • To provide advice and information to those who enquire about mental and physical health needs and related services.
  • To work regularly with people experiencing or having experienced often sad or upsetting personal and/or social situations.
  • To establish, sustain, and at the appropriate time, disengage from professional relationships with service users, working at their pace with support from the MDT.
  1. Health Promotion/STROT
  • To provide, or assist service users to access, information on health promotion including a healthy diet, smoking cessation, preventing substance misuse, and the importance of physical exercise.
  • To work with individuals to facilitate access and engagement in community-based activities, working across boundaries of care and organizations including secondary care, primary care, and third sector.
  • To promote service users living independently within the community by being aware of available community resources.
  • To support service users in becoming and sustaining social integration, using graded exposure based on a plan set and agreed with an OT working on STROT.
  1. Practical support
  • To advise service users about accessing support with housing, financial support, and tax credits.
  • To enable service users to use appropriate public and other transport links, including assistance with tickets and planning journeys.
  • To provide regular practical and emotional support to service users and their carers, working with other MDT members to develop independence and dignity.
  • To support service users in daily living, including practical help, emotional support, and assistance with difficulties.
  • To empower service users to speak up for themselves and act as their own advocates.
  1. Initial Interventions
  • To actively listen and help service users make sense of their mental health problems using basic CBT formulation.
  • To enable people with mental health needs to develop coping strategies based on CBT and mindfulness.
  • To facilitate service user input into the development of best practice.
  • To create a comfortable environment for clients to discuss themselves and their emotions.
  • To help service users identify and prioritize personal recovery goals.
  • To encourage self-management of mental health problems by providing information and reinforcing coping strategies.
  • To work under supervision of a Psychologist to deliver interventions within the Initial Intervention pathway.
  • To contribute to planning, delivering, and monitoring interventions and/or treatments in line with the pathway.
  • To assist in monitoring progress, functioning, and mental state, and alert appropriate care team members.
  • To work with an agreed care and recovery support plan, monitoring and reviewing as needed.
  • Care Planning
    • To enable service users to develop Personal Support Plans for non-CPA and attend relevant care planning meetings.
    • To involve service users actively in their care and treatment plans.
    • To highlight unmet needs to qualified staff for improvement.
    • To support the transition of service users through statutory services, working closely with other STR Workers.
    • To work closely with professionals involved in the service user's care.
    • To serve as a link between the service user and their key worker within their Personal Support Plan.

    • To develop good networks and positive relationships with other organizations to help individuals achieve their goals.
    • To liaise and signpost to other agencies while adhering to confidentiality policies.
    • To liaise and work closely with the MDT and other mental health professionals across sectors.

    • To help develop systems for monitoring service delivery in line with objectives.
    • To contribute to planning, delivering, and monitoring interventions with the MDT.
