Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Services Assistant. This is a multi-skilled role to provide effective, patient-focused facilities services in the delivery of portering, cleaning and catering.

This post is part of the Facilities & Estates, and Dorset HealthCare may transfer to an NHS wholly owned subsidiary within the next 6–12 months. The NHS wholly owned subsidiary will continue to offer NHS Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, including NHS pensions, both to transferring staff and new employees recruited after the transfer date in 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Portering is the primary role. Main duties include the transportation of patients between departments, delivery of meal trolleys, waste collection, collection of soiled linen, loading and unloading of stores to all departments, security, delivery of mail, and transportation of medical gases.
  • Domestic: achieve a high standard of cleanliness in clinical and non-clinical areas throughout the Hospital and Clinics to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and visitors.
  • Catering: assist with food preparation, serve meals for patients, staff and visitors, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the catering department.
Requirements
  • A flexible approach is essential to provide adequate support to the facilities services.
  • Ability to work across Portering, Domestic and Catering duties as required.
