Support Secretary Neurology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior MedicalSecretary to join our expanding neurology team. The role will be based at theAlexandra Hospital, Redditch, working 18.75 hours per week. The successfulcandidate will ideally have previous secretarial experience and possessexcellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to being a teamplayer to integrate within the existing team.

The role involves the typing of outpatient letters to GPsand other correspondence as required, dealing with enquiries from clinicians,GPs, other hospitals, patients and their relatives, updating medical recordsand inputting data to support with divisional targets, in addition tosupporting the Directorate Management Team with tracking and validation ofpatient pathways to achieve the national 18 week referral to treatment (RTT)target.

Main duties of the job

To undertake medical audio / copy typing duties, includingoutpatient letters to GPs, discharge summaries and other officialcorrespondence.

To accept enquiries from clinicians, GPs Health Service andSocial Services personnel, other hospitals, voluntary agencies, patients andtheir relatives. Patient contact by telephone is an integral part of the role.

To work using own initiative with minimal supervision,prioritising own workload in line with objectives of the department andconsultant teams.

To deal with all incoming correspondence, phone calls andemails in an efficient and effective way.

To liaise with other members of the secretarial /administration team in order to provide a co-ordinated and efficientsecretarial service.

To support the Directorate Management Team with theadministration, tracking and validation of patients pathways to achieve theNational 18-week Referral to Treatment (RTT) target.

To liaise with patients, relatives and staff demonstratingsensitivity and maintaining professionalism at all times.

To deal with any complaints, problems or issues in asensitive way, escalating to clinicians / management as appropriate.

To undertake any other duties as may be required /appropriate by the Directorate Management Team.
