Support Medical Secretary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our secretarial team within the Trauma & Orthopaedic Service. The role provides a link between the Trust, the patient and their GP for patients/carers and other healthcare professionals. You will provide a comprehensive, efficient and responsive secretarial service to the medical staff and their teams.

To work collaboratively with the clerical, secretarial and clinical teams to provide an accurate and effective secretarial service to the Trauma & Orthopaedic service. The post holder will work with minimal supervision and be expected to work flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a wide range of specific secretarial duties.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to provide comprehensive secretarial support to the Clinical and nursing teams.

You will need to have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team whilst maintaining a high standard of work. The ability to prioritise your workload and to know when to escalate issues is essential. You will need to be able to liaise with staff throughout the Trust at all levels including Consultants, Management, Nursing staff, GP's, patients and patient relatives, dealing effectively and efficiently with their enquiries.

To be successful in your application you will need to have a good standard of education, experience of an office based role, excellent verbal , written communication and typing skills and a clear understanding of patient confidentiality.

Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE at Grade 4/C in English (or equivalent qualifications) or equivalent experience
  • NVQ/RSA or OCR at level 3, or, relevant secretarial, admin and clerical experience that would equate to level 3.
  • ECDL or equivalent.
Experience
  • Experience of dealing with the public.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to deal with staff at all levels.
  • Previous experience of working in a team.
  • Medical Audio typing experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Previous NHS experience /Public Sector Experience.
  • Previous experience using Lorenzo and ICE results
  • Customer Care Training.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Methodical person who pays attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure, prioritising workload to achieve deadlines.
  • Understanding of data protection issues and the ability to maintain confidentiality
