Job summary

Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in East Suffolk for a Support Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will support the Finance Business Partners on the Financial Planning team across a range of service areas.

The role requires AAT qualification or equivalent experience, with strong Excel and financial systems skills, and the ability to provide clear financial information to budget holders and service managers.

Qualifications

• AAT qualified or equivalent experience, preferably within local authority or public sector.
• Proven experience in an accounting or management finance role, with a sound understanding of accounting principles, budgetary control and financial reporting.
• Experience supporting budget holders or non-financial managers, with the ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively.
• Strong Excel, financial systems and analytical skills, with experience in forecasting, reconciliations and month-end or year-end processes.

Responsibilities

• Support Finance Business Partners with revenue and capital budget monitoring, annual budget setting, financial forecasting and management reporting.
• Assist with year-end accounts preparation, reconciliations, working papers and the accurate accounting of grants, reserves and overheads.
• Provide financial advice and guidance to service managers and budget holders, supporting informed decision-making and effective budgetary control.
• Support statutory and government returns, fees and charges reviews, financial management projects and the administration of financial systems.
