Job description

Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with a passion for helping young learners build the foundations of literacy?

Are you looking for flexible work in a variety of vibrant primary schools?

We are seeking a skilled Supply Primary Teaching Assistant with a solid understanding of phonics to support children across Leeds.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team of supply educators, making a significant impact in different classrooms each day, with the flexibility to suit your schedule.

The Role:

As a Supply Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils in Early Years and Key Stage 1. Your primary focus will be on fostering a love of learning and assisting with the delivery of high-quality education. A key part of this role will be supporting phonics sessions, helping children to decode words and begin their journey to becoming confident, fluent readers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the class teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons.

  • Leading small group and one-to-one phonics sessions, reinforcing learning and providing targeted support.

  • Assisting in the creation of a stimulating and positive classroom environment.

  • Helping to manage classroom behaviour and ensuring a safe, inclusive space for all pupils.

  • Preparing learning resources and assisting with classroom displays.

  • Supporting children's social and emotional development.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Previous experience working with primary-aged children in a school setting is highly desirable.

  • A strong and demonstrable understanding of systematic synthetic phonics schemes (such as Read Write Inc., Jolly Phonics, or Letters and Sounds).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with young children and work collaboratively with school staff.

  • A patient, energetic, and positive attitude.

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working in different school environments.

  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is an advantage, but not essential.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service, or the willingness to obtain one.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive and attractive daily rates of pay.

  • Flexible work that fits around your life.

  • The chance to gain experience in a wide variety of primary schools across the Leeds area.

  • A dedicated consultant to support you and find placements that match your skills.

  • The opportunity to make a real difference in the early stages of a child's education.

If you have a passion for phonics and are ready to take on a rewarding and flexible role, we would love to hear from you.

To Apply:

Please send your CV, highlighting your experience with primary-aged children and your knowledge of phonics, to leeds@randstadeducation.co.uk

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to a full safer recruitment process, including an enhanced DBS check.
