About The Role

Job Title: Supply Teacher (SEND)

Job Location: The Grange School, Thatcham (RG2)

Salary: Between £113 - £141 per day, depending on experience and QTS

Contract Type: Flexible Working – Supply Worker Contract

Tired of the traditional Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 grind of full-time teaching? Have you had enough of going through agencies and would like to establish a close relationship directly with a company that has a network of schools across the UK?

We’re offering you a chance to escape the overwhelming workload while still doing what you love—teaching.

As a flexible SEND Supply Teacher, you’ll have the freedom to design your own schedule, choosing the days and hours that fit around your family, hobbies, or even your next adventure. Whether you're an experienced educator, finalising your PGCE, or returning to teaching after a break, this role offers the perfect opportunity to regain the work-life balance you’ve been searching for.

It’s not just about teaching—it’s about a work life balance and freedom. You can earn the income you need to fund travel, explore hobbies, or simply enjoy more free time, all while having complete control over your hours. Whether you're balancing life as a working parent, returning after a career break, or even enjoying retirement, this role gives you the flexibility to work on your terms without the pressure of full-time commitments.

We’re here when you need us, offering opportunities that work with your lifestyle—whether you’re pursuing a passion, funding your next adventure, or just looking for a change.

At the heart of The Grange is a nurturing, therapeutic approach to education. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and confident to take risks in their learning. With small class sizes of just 4-5 pupils, you'll be able to build strong relationships and deliver highly creative, pupil-focused lessons tailored to the unique needs and strengths of neurodiverse children. It's a truly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on their educational journey.

Choose flexibility. Choose creativity. At The Grange, we offer more than just a job—we offer the flexibility to teach on your terms while making a meaningful impact in the lives of our pupils. Take control of your schedule and start your flexible teaching journey with The Grange in Thatcham!

A day in the life of a Supply Teacher will involve:

  • Leading classroom activities including teaching a range of subject areas and providing pastoral support.
  • Working closely with pupils to maintain their engagement, motivation and to inspire them to reach their full potential.
  • Supporting individual pupils or smaller groups to help them achieve their learning goals.
  • Building positive relationships with Teaching Assistants in the school and ensuring that the team around the pupil is effective.

You’ll need:

  • Ideally Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS), or equivalent.
  • An ability to teach Maths & English to Level 2 (GCSE/Functional Skills).
  • Transferrable subject knowledge based on experience (SEND/SEN)
  • Patience, compassion and resilience in how you interact with our pupils and team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are important in this role as you’ll be speaking to a lot of different people at different times.
  • A driving licence and a willingness to take pupils on trips within the school vehicles.

In return for your time, you’ll get:

  • Holidays – Every time you work a shift, you’ll be paid your holiday pay on top of your hourly rate
  • Learning & Development Opportunities – We provide comprehensive learning opportunities for team members to develop themselves.
  • Wellbeing Support – Your wellbeing is always our priority. Our therapies team offers a monthly confidential check in clinic, and group reflective practice sessions.
  • DBS – As this role required you to have an enhanced DBS carried out, we will cover this cost.

As part of our commitment to safer recruitment, successful applicants will undergo pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS, online and social media checks, and reference validation. Due to the nature of our work, we are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974), so we may ask you to disclose any spent or unspent criminal convictions during recruitment. This disclosure does not automatically disqualify you, and we encourage transparency at the application stage.

At Phoenix Learning and Care, we are committed to diversity and creating an inclusive environment where all team members feel safe to be themselves without risk of discrimination. We believe that a diverse workforce strengthens our organisation, and we strive to ensure everyone can contribute authentically and openly
