Job description

Supplier Relationship Manager

Are you looking to be part of a team driving the UK's journey to net zero? We're working with an organisation playing a pivotal role in delivering clean, sustainable energy solutions across the North West. They are investing in innovation and infrastructure to support regional decarbonisation and future energy needs — and they're looking for a Supplier Relationship Manager to join their Commercial team in the North West.

We currently have an opportunity for a Supplier Relationship Manager based in Stockport or Preston to join an award-winning organisation within the energy sector.

Our Role

This is a pivotal position within the Commercial Services team. The Supplier Relationship Manager will be responsible for embedding and delivering a robust Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategy, working across indirect categories within a regulated environment.

The role requires overseeing relationship strategy, commercial performance, and governance for critical supplier partnerships. You will play a key role in building supplier confidence, driving innovation, and ensuring our SRM approach is strategic, compliant, and adds measurable value across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead quarterly business reviews and strategic supplier meetings
  • Implement and embed a regulated-compliant SRM strategy
  • Intervene and resolve relationship breakdowns with key partners
  • Drive supplier performance and innovation through SLA and KPI oversight
  • Act as the key link between procurement, sourcing, and internal stakeholders
  • Champion governance and best practice in supplier contract management
Who We're Looking For

Proven experience in Supplier Relationship Management within a regulated industry

Strong background in change management and transformation

Ability to manage internal relationships and influence senior stakeholders

Experience in managing supplier KPIs, SLAs, and contractual obligations

High emotional intelligence - able to rebuild team trust and collaboration

Strong communication style - calm, credible, and engaging

Desirable

Background in procurement or experience managing supplier portfolios in IT/indirect categories

Experience transitioning teams or functions (e.g., from IT to Procurement)

Key Challenges
  • SRM currently operates in a silo and needs to become more strategic
  • Procurement function is newly formed and still finding its feet - requiring careful navigation and political awareness
  • The team has transitioned from IT to Procurement ownership - making change management essential
Success Measures & KPIs
  • Embed and elevate SRM across Procurement and the wider business
  • Deliver savings through strategic IT contract renewals and renegotiations
  • Build capability and governance across top critical suppliers
  • Enhance business assurance and risk controls
  • Execute and track objectives-based performance management for suppliers
