Job description

Supplier Quality Engineer - Welding / Fabrications / Coatings - Full Time - Leeds , United Kingdom

Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. Join our global team to grow your expertise and develop innovative solutions that enable a prosperous and more sustainable society.

Are you ready to make an impact in a pivotal role within our team? Sulzer Leeds is expanding, and we're seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer with expertise in welding, fabrication or coatings. Your role will be vital in ensuring our suppliers meet industry standards, Sulzer's stringent requirements, and project specifications. CSWIP or NACE qualifications would be ideal, as would experience in witnessing inspections and attending all First Off inspections for fabricated components.

This position combines working in the office with visits to supplier sites, requiring flexibility to stay away from home, in some cases for up to one week at a time. In return, we offer comprehensive support for travel and ensure a healthy work-life balance.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Witness inspections and attend First Off inspections for fabricated components, coatings, and welding processes.
  • Conduct in-process, notified, and final inspections at supplier premises. Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and follow up on resolutions.
  • Refine internal and supplier-facing processes to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Manage supplier audit schedules, conduct audits, and drive continuous improvement based on findings.
  • Facilitate meetings to ensure suppliers understand and meet all project requirements.
  • Use supplier performance data to assist in supplier selection and mitigate risks.
  • Liaise with internal departments to resolve technical queries and ensure project alignment.
  • Manage and resolve NCRs, minimising production disruptions.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience. NDT, CSWIP, NACE, or certifications are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in welding, fabrication, coatings, and related inspections.
  • Familiarity with castings, forgings, fabrications, machining, or paint processes.
  • Strong proficiency in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Competence with SAP or similar systems.
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight when required.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence and Passport.

What we offer you:

  • Competitive basic salary.
  • Inclusion in a company-wide bonus scheme, paid annually based on company performance.
  • Flexi-time policy to support work-life balance.
  • 33 days of annual leave.
  • Defined pension contribution.
  • Confidential support through our Employee Assistance Programmes.
  • Access to a wide range of discounts on everyday shopping, entertainment, and lifestyle.
  • Opportunity to apply for a Costco membership for exclusive offers.
  • Discounted personal car leasing available for you, your family, and friends.
  • Long Service Awards to celebrate employee longevity.
  • Continuous learning and development through Sulzer Learning Pathways.
  • Free, secure onsite parking, including electric charging facilities.

At Sulzer Leeds, we foster a vibrant work environment where your expertise and dedication are truly valued. Join us in driving quality excellence and contributing to our exciting growth story.
