Description

As Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE), you will be responsible for managing the quality aspects of materials and services provided by external suppliers. The role involves implementing quality assurance processes, conducting audits, and collaborating with suppliers to address quality issues. SQEs work closely with cross-functional teams, including procurement, production, and engineering, to ensure that sourced components and materials meet the company’s quality standards and regulatory requirements. This position is vital for maintaining supply chain integrity and ensuring that end products meet high standards expected by customers and stakeholders.

Travel and Flexibility:

The role requires extensive travel within the UK. While reporting to the Head of Supply Chain at Portsmouth, candidates based in the North of the UK are also encouraged to apply to facilitate travel.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supplier Quality Management:
    • Develop and implement supplier quality management systems and standards.
    • Maintain quality standards and specifications for suppliers.
  2. Supplier Evaluation and Selection:
    • Evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and service.
    • Conduct audits of supplier facilities and processes.
  3. Quality Audits and Inspections:
    • Perform regular audits and inspections of suppliers’ facilities and products.
    • Identify non-conformances and work with suppliers on corrective actions.
  4. Supplier Development:
    • Collaborate with suppliers to improve quality performance.
    • Provide technical support and training as needed.
  5. Quality Metrics and Reporting:
    • Track and analyze quality metrics like defect rates and delivery performance.
    • Prepare quality reports for management.
  6. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work with procurement, engineering, and production teams.
    • Communicate quality requirements clearly to suppliers and stakeholders.
  7. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and implement improvements in supplier quality.
    • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Education: Degree in engineering, Quality Management, or related; Apprenticeship qualifications considered.

Experience: 5-7 years in supplier quality engineering or similar.

Skills: Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9102; analytical and problem-solving skills; communication; proficiency in quality tools/software (e.g., Minitab, SAP QM); ability to read 3D models and technical files.

Certifications: AS9100, ISO 9001, Six Sigma, or relevant certifications preferred. Experience in the defence sector and knowledge of DEFSTAN, DEFCON, QASOR standards required.

Additional Requirements

UK right to work, ability to obtain UK security clearance (SC level), and willingness to travel (~60/40%).
