About The Job
As the Supplier Quality Engineer, you will work directly with our quality assurance and purchasing departments to analyze supplier performance to improve quality, cost, and delivery performance. You will also perform supplier audits, analyze supplier survey results, and use various testing methods, inspection, qualification, data collection, and reporting to support supplier quality within the scope of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, and AS9100D requirements. This role interfaces with customers and suppliers to support product qualification activities and quality management systems audits, and ensure continued excellence.
- Serve as a liaison between Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, and Suppliers to resolve quality issues for purchased parts!
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, promoting a culture of continuous improvement in alignment with industry best practices, such as Six Sigma and Lean principles.
- Develop, review, and approve inspection plans and testing to inspect appropriate parameters, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards such as ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and AS9100D.
- Describe, specialize, enforce, and evaluate application elements to help utilize the Epicor ERP system effectively, ensuring supplier performance is tracked accurately and aligned with company objectives.
- Investigate nonconforming parts to determine the root cause and support the production floor for supplier-related issues, driving resolutions through Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) and Supplier Corrective Action Plans (SCARs).
- Follow up with suppliers for supplier-related nonconformances, evaluate risk, and initiate Supplier Corrective Action Plans/Reports (SCARs) with suppliers for issues of higher risk.
- Work with Purchasing to assess and approve suppliers and identify nonconforming supplier trends, ensuring that only qualified suppliers are engaged.
- Monitor suppliers’ processes and performance through on-site audits and data review, and track and trend supplier performance by producing and reporting on metrics for management review.
- Oversee supplier activities, including change management, risk assessment, and supplier quality agreements, ensuring all actions comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements in an ISO 9001 and medical device (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR820) environment, working closely with the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure all documentation is maintained and up to date.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders through meeting minutes and status reports, keeping all parties informed of supplier quality performance.
- Recommend process improvements and actively stay involved in the development of processes and tools, encouraging the use of continuous improvement methodologies like Kaizen or Lean Six Sigma where applicable.
- Provide support in overall quality program issues to support Quality Department effectiveness, ensuring continuous alignment with the company's overall Quality Management System (QMS) goals.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of mathematics and statistics to perform data analysis and process control.
- Strong Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to interpret drawings and ensure proper inspection techniques.
- Proficient in MS Office, including Word and Excel, with a strong capacity to analyze data and present findings effectively.
- Minimum of 3 years of related industry experience in supplier quality engineering (preferred, particularly in regulated environments like Medical Device, Aerospace, or Defense).
- Auditor training/experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, and AS9100D Quality Management Systems (preferred)
- Six Sigma training (preferred), with the ability to apply Six Sigma principles to improve supplier processes.
- Technical capacity to manage complex quality issues and technical specifications, particularly in a regulated environment.
- Communication proficiency, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Confident in decision making, with the ability to make sound quality decisions under pressure.
- Initiative and results-driven, with a focus on achieving continuous improvement goals.
- Thorough with great attention to detail, ensuring all supplier quality documentation is accurate and compliant.
- Occasional travel to supplier sites is required to assess quality systems and capabilities
