Job description

Description

We are looking to recruit for a Supplier Quality Engineer to sit within the Quality team, within Business Services and Quality.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of materials, components, and assemblies sourced from external suppliers. This position serves as the primary quality interface between the company and its supplier base, driving continuous improvement, compliance with standards, and supplier development initiatives.

The role will be 100% office based with review once probation is completed. Even when reviewed, the employee will be expected on side 3+ days a week as this is a hands-on role.

The candidate must be willing and able to travel within the UK on an occasional basis.

Key Responsibilities Quality in the Supply Chain

  • Act as the main point of contact for supplier quality, ensuring materials specifications are clear and queries are resolved.
  • Oversee goods-in testing processes, analyse supplier test data, and lead on containment and resolution of defective materials.
  • Manage supplier returns, assess corrective actions, and support continuous improvement through supplier reviews and performance reporting.
  • Maintain a vendor rating system, travel for audits or reviews, and collaborate with Purchasing to evaluate and onboard suppliers.
  • Support new supplier and product introductions, including managing change qualification activities.

Quality in the Production Cycle

  • Monitor First Time Pass Yield and internal failures to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Lead timely containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for production issues.
  • Work with Operations teams to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.

Quality (Standards, Audits, and Documentation)

  • Support and lead audits across Operations in line with ISO9001 and other applicable standards.
  • Contribute to quality metric development and maintain compliance with legal and certification requirements.
  • Ensure quality documentation is kept accurate and up to date.
  • Act as the central point for supplier quality communications via the Quality mailbox.

  • Quality Assurance: Defines testing methods, analyses results, and leads corrective/preventive actions.
  • Documentation: Maintains and updates quality-related records and work instructions.
  • IT Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and internal systems.

Desirable

  • Quality Auditing: Experience supporting or leading audits to standards such as ISO9001.
  • Compliance: Supports external certification and ensures legal compliance.
