Job description

What you will do:

As Supplier Quality & Development Manager, you will monitor, evaluate, train, and select suppliers across multiple Product Business Units (PBUs) within Johnson Controls.

Your responsibilities include ensuring high-quality performance from suppliers providing direct materials, branded third-party materials, and materials for the field business, while driving new processes and best practices for optimal supplier performance and customer satisfaction.

You will work cross-functionally to implement processes for failure prevention in New Product Introduction (NPI) related to supplier components, coordinating the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). Additionally, you will monitor supplier quality performance and support root cause analysis and CAPA for critical quality issues.

How you will do it:

As a member of the Supplier Quality team, you will work within a dynamic environment that provides a high level of exposure and influence, while supporting multiple varied business units. The activities and responsibilities within the role will include the following:

  1. Conduct audits and assessments at supplier locations (up to 50% travel), including remote assessments as needed.
  2. Mentor Supplier Quality Engineers collaborating with Product Quality teams and suppliers.
  3. Lead global teams to monitor supplier performance using metrics like DPPM, cost recovery, and warranty issues.
  4. Work remotely with JCI locations to resolve significant supplier quality issues.
  5. Develop and implement a Supplier Quality Improvement Roadmap to ensure compliance with JCI standards.
  6. Support engineering teams in resolving warranty issues and applying advanced problem-solving techniques.
  7. Facilitate APQP processes for new product launches, including FMEA and control plan development.
  8. Liaise between Procurement and Product teams on warranty and quality initiatives.
  9. Act as a quality expert, conducting training sessions on quality tools for suppliers.
  10. Review quality issues of top global suppliers and recommend actions for management quality reviews.

What we look for:

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Management or equivalent experience.
  2. Supplier Quality or Supply Chain knowledge.
  3. Possess strong oral, written and listening communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated change management ability, and team-building skills.
  5. Relevant experience in a manufacturing or field service environment.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  7. Up to approximately 50% travel, including international.

Preferred:

  1. DMAIC (Blackbelt/Greenbelt) training, Lean Six-Sigma manufacturing experience.
  2. Problem solving training (Kepner Tregoe, 8D or Shainin).
  3. Working knowledge of APQP techniques.
  4. ASQ CQE certification.
