Job summary

The Cossham Dialysis unit within Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Part Time Ward Nurse (Band 7) to join a forward‑thinking team. Main duties of the job
  • Take personal responsibility for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed
  • Know and follow the advisory guidelines as laid down by the NMC
  • Able to organize and co-ordinate services
  • Assist in the implementation and evaluation of quality/initiatives/standards
  • Plans work of ward, staff training, rosters, short term cover – adjusts to cover emergencies
  • Promote and maintain a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment for all patients and a pleasant and receptive climate for the patients, their relatives and friends
  • Check the readiness for use of special equipment and availability of nursing supplies
  • Recommend and practice acceptable economies for the promotion of an effective and efficient nursing service
  • Develops program of care.
  • Undertakes a full nursing assessment, plan and evaluate nursing care for patients
  • Ensure the safe custody of patients’ valuables and property
  • Ensure the safe custody and administration of medicines
  • Undertake additional nursing skills for administration of IV drugs, undertakes appraisals forward staff, and develops staff

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for leading and monitoring the performance of the nursing team. Also responsible for the development of programs of care, assessing implementing and evaluating nursing care. He/she is designated to ensure the effective running of the ward and managing resources. The ward manager/ Supervisory ward sister has 24-hour responsibility for the ward/ unit and holds and manages the ward budget.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Adult Nursing ( Degree)
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration
  • Recent study Degree/ MSc level or working towards
  • Evidence of post Registration education and relevant to nursing practice
  • Management or leadership course or equivalent proven Management
  • Experience of supervising supporting and appraising registered and unregistered staff
  • Evidence of effective leadership in a clinical environment
  • significant post registration experience within hemodialysis and or similar
  • Evidence of clinical governance and leadership
  • A range acute experience in Nursing Care
  • Recent Renal Experience in dialysis and acute care setting
  • Willingness to study in leadership qualification
  • Experience of implementing clinical policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Experience of incident management, risk assessment and clinical governance processes.
  • Knowledge of patient safety, risk management and quality assurance processes
  • Ability to manage performance issues, sickness absence and staff wellbeing in line with Trust policies
  • Experience of audit, quality improvement and service development projects
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands
