Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit on a permanent basis a Support Services Supervisor to support our Newtown Support Services team. The hours of work are 37.5 hours and there will be a requirement to work weekends on a rota. This role will be permanent.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing day-to-day management of all staff in the Domestic, Catering, and Portering services.
  • Ensuring all services are delivered in full compliance with all appropriate legislation and local policies and procedures.
  • Conducting regular audits on hotel services to ensure compliance with policies and legal requirements.
  • Planning, coordinating, and monitoring activities to ensure all services meet health and safety requirements.
  • Deputising for the Support Services Coordinator as required.
  • Ensuring equipment, resources, and materials are ordered and available to maintain stock levels.
  • Maintaining excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure services meet the hospital's needs.

Job responsibilities
  • Ensuring adequate staff cover at the required levels to meet service needs, including managing rosters and approving bank timesheets.
  • Identifying and escalating unplanned staff shortages early.
  • Authorizing leave and applying relevant policies in conjunction with HR support.
  • Delivering induction and providing mentorship and training to improve team performance.
  • Ensuring all staff complete statutory and mandatory training.
  • Conducting performance reviews with clear objectives and support plans.
  • Planning schedules and conducting quality audits to ensure standards are met.

Person Specification
Role Requirements
  • Literacy and numeracy at Level 1 or equivalent.
  • Relevant City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in Hotel Services including Catering.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace, e.g., Manual Handling, COSHH, and clinical waste handling.
  • Foundation Food Hygiene Certificate; Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate preferred.
  • Experience in Catering, Domestic, or Portering environments.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team.
  • Experience conducting audits/checks and using electronic recording systems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing demands and prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel between hospital sites.
  • Supervisory Management Certificate (e.g., NEBSM) preferred.
  • Experience with NHS electronic systems (e.g., ESR, e-Rostering).
  • Ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
