Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a level one trauma center, is seeking a Supervisor Registered Nurse (Assistant Nurse Manager) for our Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit.

Hours/Shift: Full Time (40 hours) Rotating Shifts

Position Summary:

Shares 24/7 responsibility to assist the manager in daily operations of clinical areas. Supervises patient care staff to ensure safety, high quality outcomes, and exceptional patient/family experience. Assists in budget development, coordinates purchasing and payroll, serves as a clinical resource, and mentors staff. Participates in hiring, development, and retention efforts, and may coordinate staff education and orientation. Uses effective communication and adapts leadership style to meet department goals.

Department Overview:
  • 14-bed unit
  • Performs Kidney/Pancreas Transplants and complex vascular surgeries
  • Immediate surgical recovery for Kidney and Pancreas Transplant
  • Care for general surgical patients requiring ICU
  • Management of mechanical ventilation, CRRT, and hemodialysis
  • Vascular procedures including revascularization, AAA management, carotid procedures, DVT treatments, etc.
  • Adult medical and surgical patients, average stay 2-3 days, complex cases >30 days
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred
  • Registered Nurse License required
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire
  • Minimum 2 years relevant nursing experience
