Position Summary: The Laboratory Section Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and participating in all aspects of daily operations in an assigned section.
Essential Functions: Provides daily supervision of personnel and reporting of tests. Monitors workflow, evaluates compliance with service guarantees and quality control requirements. Works cooperatively with all customers and responds effectively to meet or exceed customer needs. Monitors customer service satisfaction and addresses issues in a timely manner. Orients and trains team members, completes performance competency evaluations, coaching plans, recognizes performance, and addresses disciplinary actions. Schedules staff to meet workload requirements while minimizing expenses. Assumes bench responsibilities as needed and regularly performs testing to maintain proficiency. Performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests, verifies results and quality control data, and evaluates all quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures. Monitors test analysis for acceptable performance levels and takes corrective actions as needed. Evaluates team competency, monitors test results, and maintains documentation. Evaluates new test methodologies and instrumentation, makes recommendations, and implements new methods under supervision. Supports operational budget management, orders supplies, monitors inventory, and ensures testing utilization. Develops and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Manages workflow, delegates responsibilities, and communicates regularly with the manager. Handles human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching, and performance counseling. Maintains attendance in accordance with policies and ensures compliance with all relevant standards and policies.
Other Related Functions: Understands all laboratory areas, supports quality improvement initiatives, enforces safety and infection control practices, maintains confidentiality, and collaborates with other sites to ensure consistency and standardization in testing methodology and procedures.
Education/Training: Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technology or appropriate training facility. Bachelor’s degree in a related science field. Completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship.
Licensure/Certification: Maintains current supervisor license and medical technologist license required for the area of responsibility - Alabama Department of Health.
Experience: Five (5) years laboratory experience.
